Changing a Preferred Name

User guide on the changing a preferred name feature.

Editing features are only available for terminologies that have been configured to support it and when logged in as a user with a “USER” or “ADMIN” role.

Details

Preferred names can be changed for concepts that have been searched for and loaded into the display. See Terminology Browsing for more information on searching.

For example, consider the following search result for “heart structure” in SNOMEDCT_US:

To change the preferred name, click on the name where displayed in the header at the top of the concept report. It will become editable. For example:

Next, edit the name to be the preferred name you want. For example:

Now, click outside the box (e.g. somewhere nearby - using “tab' can cause the UI to jump because the browser tries to find the closest tab-accessible field).

This will cause the name to get updated and “set” and “cancel” buttons to appear.

To complete the preferred name change, click the “Set” button (and accept the final confirmation dialog). To cancel, click the “Cancel” button.

Even if you make a mistake, you can go back and re-edit the preferred name to put it back to what it should be.

NOTE: if you change the preferred name to a value that is not already a synonym of the concept, this will cause a new synonym to get added.
